Long's Drug Store

Our family loves to visit Long's Drug Store in Knoxville. This drugstore seems to be pulled right out of an episode of the Andy Griffith Show. It opened in 1956 and has been a favorite in Knoxville ever since. You can order all sorts of homemade foods from the grill or even enjoy a milkshake, malt, or coke float. It's nice to have a reminder of how things were in simpler times. Here is a photo of my husband, daughter, and son on a recent visit to Long's. Of course, I'm behind the camera!

GreekFest ~ St. George Greek Orthodox Church

The St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Knoxville celebrated their 29th Annual GreekFest this weekend, and we were there amongst all the fun just taking in all the sights, scents, and joyfulness. We ate lots of Greek foods . . . mostly pastries and breads. We bought our daughter a scarf/wrap covered in coins, watched lots of Greek dancing, listened to music that would make anyone want to dance, had our son's face painted, and went on a church tour. It was a wonderful afternoon and evening! We are already planning a return visit next year. As our son asked earlier this evening, "Are we coming back next year?" Our answer . . .Yes!

Morning Mist

I was met with this serene and peaceful scene on a recent morning after dropping my daughter off at preschool. This field sits across from the preschool. The beauty of the sky and misty fog made me pause as I was getting into my car to rush off to work. I stopped for a moment, reached for my ever-present camera that I carry with me, and took this snapshot. I'm glad I captured this moment. And I wasn't late for work after all.

The Tennessee River and Henley Street Bridge

This is the second photo taken from Club LeConte ~ as promised in yesterday's post. In this photo you can see the Tennessee River, the Henley Street Bridge, the City-County Building, the old Knox County Courthouse, and in the upper right, Neyland Stadium, home of the University of Tennessee Volunteers.

I attended a small luncheon with friends and co-workers yesterday at Club LeConte, a private dining establishment, which is located on the 27th floor of the First Tennessee Bank Plaza Tower. The view from the picture windows of Club LeConte is breathtaking. I was able to take 2 snapshots before we began the luncheon. In this photo you can see the Sunsphere which was the icon of the 1982 World's Fair held in Knoxville. Tomorrow I will post the other photo which will show a view of the Tennessee River.

Stowaway to the International House of Pancakes

This little grasshopper rode with us one evening on a trip from home to the International House of Pancakes. We were amazed at this little bug's ability to hold on even though we were traveling at least 50 mph.

Fountain City Park

I played at this park as a child and have lots of wonderful memories from those years. I'm happy to bring my own children here to play and hope that they too are forming lots of fond memories.

Bloomin' Butterfly Gardens ~ Knoxville Zoo

The butterfly exhibit at the Knoxville Zoo is quite the experience. It's a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by so many beautiful creatures and perhaps have one of these butterflies choose you to land upon.

The Disney Store ~ West Town Mall

One of my favorite places to shop! I absolutely love all things Disney, and have planned and taken family vacations to Walt Disney World every year since 2005.

Weigel's Dairy

This dairy farm is still in operation. It almost looks to be pulled from the pages of a storybook illustration. Every spring the yellow flowers bloom, and the beauty of it always takes my breath away.

Knoxville Center Mall ~ Indoor Play Area

The kids love this play area located at the Knoxville Center Mall. It's a great place to take a rest and let the kids run off some energy. I like it because it's located near Auntie Anne's Pretzels and Bath & Body Works!

University of TN ~ Gardens

The UT Gardens holds a special place in my heart. In the early days of our marriage my husband and I used to meet on our lunch hour here to eat and talk. We decided on our daughter's name here. The UT Gardens are constantly changing, so it's always an adventure to explore all the beautiful pathways and trails.

Powell Station Park

This splash park is lots of fun . . . a great place for the kids to cool off on hot summer days.

Knoxville Zoo ~ Danger: Live Animals

This huge crate is on display near the Elephant Exhibit at the Knoxville Zoo for the kids to play in. I wonder if it really was used to transport an animal to the zoo?

Big Orange Army Tank

The kids were fascinated with this Big Orange Tank. We are always ready to show our support for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Go Big Orange!
